Books, manuscripts and other documentary materials were another inseparable parts of the museum collections from its funding. It was a numerous set that contained valuable unique objects which is proved by the "Archive and library catalogue of the museum alliance" made by J.M. Jakubičková and printed in 1905 in Jičín.
The museum archive was taken into the newly established fund of District archive in Jičín after 1952 and District national committee dedicated an essential part of the funds to the Museum library of National scientific library in Hradec Králové in the mid 60's. The odd parts of the fund were digested and newly recorded into the incremental list by Hana Horáková-Trojanová in the years from 1969 to 1996. Book gains are recorded on computers in the programme KP-win SQL since 2004 and there is also being made the recataloging of regional literature.
The current fund of the library contains about 30 000 titles and has two parts: the historical fund contains documents connected to collections and is registered in the national evidence of collections. The specialized fund contains materials connected to professional activity of the museum and publications of general character – dictionaries, textbooks, handbooks, periodicals etc. The historical fund is further divided into following groups:
1) Regional literature (4 600 titles) – it contains fiction as well as educational literature (including periodicals, booklets, guidebooks, company and promotional leaflets etc.) that deals with the town of Jičín and its region. Further, it contains materials published in this region and works and literature of famous personalities who were born or just worked there.
2) Manuscripts (830 titles) – it contains documentary materials, prayer books, manuscripts from published or unpublished works and correspondence of personalities who are connected mainly to Jičín. Typescripts of unpublished works are also recorded here. Those are especially chroniclers, annual and diploma thesis dealing with Jičín and local personalities.
3) Old printings (139 titles) – it contains collections of book printings published until 1850, various provenances especially with religious themes.
4) Religious and secular songs – this collection contains 1386 religious and 850 secular songs printed from the mid 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century in the whole Czech lands.
Except above mentioned sources, there is also a big collection of postcards possible to inspect in the library.
