The exposition Valdštejn and Jesuits
There is also one room in the permanent castle exposition that is dedicated to history and meaning of Jesuit's order. The exposition Vajldštejn and Jesuits was installed in the big hall in 1999 and it explains the Jesuit's history in Jičín and it also introduces the most important personalities. The presentation shows photographs, books and plans. The central motive is the picture of Albert Valdštejn from 1720 which was painted by Jan Jiří Majora and another central motive is a cycle of pictures from Viktorín Ignác Raab. The Jičín's model from 1620-1640 made by František Šalda in 1934 may also bring interest.
Jesuits were brought to Jičín by Albrecht of Valdštejn in 1622. His plan was to make Jičín the capital city and the cultural centre of frýdlant's manor should be the impact of the Jesuit order. The project of building the houses for Jesuit order was realized during the 17th century in the western part of the town. It should contain the church of St. Ignác, dormitory, grammar school, seminary and hospital.
The activity of Jičín's Jesuits was not only seen through the building of their own manor and pedagogical work but also through the compulsory missionary work. The story of Matěj Burnatius – the representative of Jičín's recatholization – is also very interesting because he was killed by the rebel 9.8. 1629 because of his endeavour and pitiless fulfilling his tasks.
The baroque historian Bohuslav Balbín (1621-1688) was another passing person who is connected to Jičín. Balbín began writing the history of local dormitory Historia collegii Giczinensis in 1667 but he reached only the year 1636. He dedicated his work to Albrecht Valdštejn's origin and genealogy.
